Water for Elephants

I actually started out reading the book Water for Elephants before watching it. I usually like to read the books before watching the movie adaptation. I must confess though that I couldn’t wait to finish the book and ended up watching the movie anyway.  It doesn’t matter, as the movie is slightly different than the book to accommodate production time.

In this heartwarming tale, Jacob played by Robert Pattinson (Twilight Saga) is in his final year at Cornell getting a degree in veterinary sciences when a fatal accident befalls his beloved parents.  As the movie is set in the time of the US depression, Jacob has no means to support himself and is forced to find himself a way of making a living. He ends up hoping a circus train and starts working with them.

Everything Must Go

When I say, Will Ferrell, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Funny, loud, obnoxious maybe; for me, I just have a mental picture of him as Elf. So, you can imagine my surprise when I watched him in Everything Must Go and found his portrayal of Nick Halsey, the recently fired alcoholic salesman who was left by his wife, to be a seriously heartwarming and amazing.

Madea’s Big Happy Family

Tyler Perry in the eyes of many is a comic genius. He’s the creator of the Blockbuster Madea movie franchise. His first movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, was a phenomenal success in which Tyler Perry plays Madea. It was in fact such a hit that it was followed by Madea’s Family Reunion and Madea Goes to Jail. Perry also producdes the sitcom Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

RED

What do you get when a bunch of RED (Retired & Extremely Dangerous) CIA operatives hook up together? A trail of death and destruction is what you get.

Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) is one such retired CIA operative going about his daily mundane life as a retiree. As Frank shows interest in his pension representative Sarah (Mary- Louise Parker) he is suddenly a target of assassins!

He decides to investigate further and finds a list of retired operatives’ names written by a reporter that was recently killed. He discovers that most of the names on the list are being systematically killed. So, he decides to solicit the help of his old CIA buddies Marvin (John Malkovich), Joe (Morgan Freeman) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) to solve the mystery.

The Switch

Anybody remember a teen comedy called ‘Teen Wolf Too’? It was a movie made in the Eighties starring Jason Bateman as teenager who discovers he’s a werewolf. Jason disappeared from acting for a number of years and has recently returned to acting and at a much better level, I might add.
